Nuturing Growth at Neighborhood House SW Portland Headquarters.
In times of uncertainty, community organizations like Neighborhood House become even more vital, offering not just services, but safe spaces where neighbors support neighbors. We're honored to share this new mural celebrating the work they do every day to nurture and uplift our community.
A vibrant mural by local artist Alex Chiu now graces the new home of community nonprofit Neighborhood House. Titled "Nurturing Growth," the 180 square foot mural was painted on three metal panels at Alex Chiu's studio and installed by the artist with assistance from Walsh Construction.
To design the mural, Alex worked closely with Neighborhood House to curate the images used in the work. The mural is based on the organization's logo, with a home at the center and a series of portraits radiating outward. The four background colors reflect the orange, green, yellow, and teal of Neighborhood House's logo.
Each section features the services provided to the community, including their Parenting Program, Head Start and Student Age Services, Senior Center, Food Pantry, Community Garden, Housing, and Community Health.

The most memorable moment I had was visiting the Chair Aerobics Class at the Senior Center. I painted the instructor, Peggy, in the top right of the mural.
