BEAVERTON BIRD CALL

BIRD CALL

BEAVERTON, OREGON

Over the course of four weeks, this spring Portland-based artist David created a stunning new mural on the parking structure at the new Modera Beaverton Apartments in downtown Beaverton.

Work in Progress

The new mural, titled Bird Call, depicts two birds, a Scrub Jay and a Meadowlark, communicating to one another through a layered environment of shapes. Each bird is prominently featured on large sections of the garage, calling back and forth to one another. Connecting the two combines organic and geometric subjects, including yellow daisies and a sprig of magnolia blossoms, creating a balance between the natural world and the digital age we live in.

“The goal of this mural is to connect the people of Beaverton through a fun and interesting visual language. I hope that it becomes a cornerstone of the community, adding to the identity of Beaverton and inspiring creativity.” – David Rice, Muralist

Bird Call was commissioned by the Mill Creek Residential Trust for its stylish new apartment complex located in central Beaverton. The building is decorated inside in out with art - a nod to Beaverton’s nearby Reser Center for the Performing Arts

Downtown Beaverton continues to establish itself as a dynamic hub for creativity, community, and cultural expression. With a flourishing arts scene that includes public murals, innovative galleries, live performances at the Reser Center, and year-round cultural events, the district is quickly becoming a standout destination for artists and art lovers alike. Mill Creek is proud to be a part of the community, and we felt like it was important to give something back and contribute to the vibrancy and character of the city.” – Chad Encinas,  Vice President of Development, Mill Creek Residential Trust

This 1,580+ square foot mural is by far the largest in Beaverton and is destined to be a prominent city landmark for years to come. This beautiful piece of public art aims to inspire communities and businesses in suburbs and small towns across the Pacific Northwest to invest in public art.

“PSAA is thrilled to bring this stunning new duo mural by David Rice to downtown Beaverton as part of the city’s growing public art landscape. As PSAA’s first large-scale mural commission in Beaverton, and in partnership with a valued repeat client, this project marks an exciting step in expanding access to vibrant, community-centered art beyond Portland and across the metro area and region. Thank you to David Rice, Chad & Tim at Mill Creek, and Ryan & Jessica at Star Rentals for helping us with all of the logistics for painting at this complex construction site. We also greatly appreciate all the guidance and support we received from Debi Thompson, the Arts Program Coordinator at the City of Beaverton.” – Tiffany Conklin, Executive Director, Portland Street Art Alliance
